Aircraft grade Sitka Spruce has become very difficult to obtain and prices are prohibitive. We have therefore researched aviation wood specifications and find there are many alternate woods that are acceptable for aircraft use if selected to aircraft specs, ie: grain spacing, grain slope, moisture content, weight , warpage, etc etc… We have a selection of Ash lumber which meets aircraft specifications, at reasonable prices. Therefore, we supply ash material in our kits with no compromise in quality, strength, weight and at a reasonable cost. The typical airplane plans we sell require 16-20 board feet of lumber. This equates to 14-15 pounds of weight difference from Spruce to Ash. Our specifications the Ash lumber we sell are: • 6-8 growth rings per inch. • Never more than 45 degrees maximum  deflection. • All grain run out must be 16:1 or less.
